POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position will be a key leader in the Marketing and Communications team and work in an enterprise fashion with key stakeholders across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in media relations and executive communications in either the nonprofit, corporate or agency sectors.

  • Lead the development of an annual communications strategy that spans messaging, media relations, thought leadership and executive communications in collaboration with the CMO and other key stakeholders.  Develop budget and create metrics as part of this process.
  • Develop and maintain media list for the organization.
  • Foster and grow relationships with key reporters engaging them in the XPRIZE mission and our programs. Seek creative ways to tap into trends, speaking opportunities and more to engage media.
  • Partner with leaders on speaking engagements to help maximize efforts across marketing channels. Ensure proper messaging and briefing materials are developed.
  • Oversee PR agency and consultants in partnership with CMO including planning, budgeting and metrics.
  • Collaborate with CMO on XPRIZE messaging and positioning.
  • Partner with domain marketing leads and domain teams to drive PR efforts. Serve as lead counsel on PR efforts ensuring coordination and consistency of the program.
  • Provide media coaching and other prep and counsel to executives.
  • Partner with marketing team on various projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with CMO on issues management and reputation efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years media relations and communications experience; 3 years in a leadership role in media relations, communications and/or PR
  • Adept at measuring media relations efforts
  • Relationships with the press and an ability to connect with reporters and establish connections across a variety of media (trade, national, local)
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • Ability to work in ambiguity and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong presentation and superb writing skills with the ability to write and speak to a wide range of target audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage agencies and freelancers.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to translate scientific or complex information to make it accessible for a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of how to leverage social media to compliment communications efforts
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Strong MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills.
  • Experience working in G-Suite
